Plans Afoot…

Ahoy there.

Anyone who follows this blog semi-regularly is probably well accustomed to my whiplashing pace of content. Going from four posts in a month to nary a single update for three is very, very, on brand for me.

To anyone who’s been getting their teeth into Herakles during this time (and they’re aren’t exactly many of you – believe me, I’m tracking the sales), I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I did writing it. I still have 4 copies staring at me, malevolently, from my bookshelf, and I’m still not tired of having its cover as my desktop background.

At some point in the distant future, I’m going to pull my finger out and do it up in hardback, but that’s an endeavour that will take time (to work out all new margins and dimensions) as well as money (to re-open the formatting can of worms once again), so with other commitments (both authorial, and actual real life) on the horizon this year, it really isn’t a priority for me.

Perhaps when the Herakles paperback sells more than 10 copies, I’ll revisit that decision.

In other news, real life has brought a few ups and downs. A very large family wedding is looming on the horizon, and anyone who’s ever had to plan one of those (or even, existed in a space where one of those is being planned) can tell you what an enthralling ennui that can be, particularly when it’s 15 months in the making. Additionally, later this year I’ll have to delve once more into the world of jobhunting, which only happens to be my favourite bloody pastime.

And we’re due one of the wettest summers imaginable, but since the weather for most of May has been so grand, I’m not massively bothered. It’s been a fairly aesthetically pleasing month, all things considered.

… As well as, sadly, a geopolitically sensitive one.

In terms of writing news, I was aware that I hadn’t really shared any for a while. I just wanted to hop online and confirm to you that I hadn’t been totally idle these last months. Remember that secret project that I mentioned? The one that wasn’t the Ajax novel?

Yeah, that’s ticking along.

And no, you’re not going to know what it is yet. Not least until it’s closer to being finished.

That is all.
